Mr. Kent Matla 

Mr MATLA has been intensely involved with the China market since 1990. He is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and has robust knowledge and experience in the China market, both commercially and culturally. Mr MATLA has held a number of positions in China since moving here to live full time in 1993. These included post manager for the Australian Trade Commission and as chief representative for an Australian trade and technology consulting company in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province (1993-1996); economic/political research and visits officer at the Australian Embassy, Beijing (1996-1997); executive director of an education investment company (1998); through to establishing his own business and investment advisory firm representing GNS from Singapore, William Buck Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors from Perth, and a fiduciary company from Malaysia (1998-2004). Mr MATLA’s own business merged to form GNS China in 2004. Mr MATLA has served a number of terms as a Director of the China-Australia Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Beijing) since its establishment in 1996. He is presently serving his second term as Deputy Chairman and previously held the position as Treasurer for five consecutive terms (2003-2008). Mr MATLA was also invited to judge the AustCham Australian Business Awards in Hong Kong in 2003, 2004, 2008, and 2009 in Beijing. Mr MATLA is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of GNS China (Beijing and Hong Kong), an entrepreneurial investment and corporate advisory group, facilitating and making investments in China opportunities and providing corporate advisory services to entities and high-net-worth individuals – especially in relation to cross-border transactions into and out of the China market. GNS China is a member of the Australia China Business Council, CBEX (China Beijing Equity Exchange), the China Mergers & Acquisitions Association, the China International Mining Group, and a foundation member of the China-Australia Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Beijing). Mr MATLA brings a wealth of experience to GNS China including strong management and corporate advisory skills. He understands the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of the China market entry process from an analytical to practical perspective. Through his extensive experience in the market, he is not only able to understand where opportunities are, but also how to create them. Mr MATLA provides strategic and practical advice to a wide range of clients on negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, and opportunity and capital matching, through to corporate and investment structuring. Mr MATLA is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the International Entrepreneurship Academy (Sweden); a Standing Director of the China International Alternative Investment Association (China); a Member of The Global Foundation (Australia), and holds directorships on a number of company’s boards.
