Professor Jisong Wu

Dr. Wu Jisong, was born in August 1944. Dean of Economics & Management School,Director of China Research Center of Recycle Economy,Professor of Beihang University , Advisor of Beijing 2008 Olympic Game Organizing Committee, President of Beijing Recycle Economy Association?the unique member in Asia of Scientific Committee of International Association of Science Parks, Vice-director of the Academic Committee of Chinese Sociely of Technology Economics, Vise-president of the philosophy committee of Chinese Sociely for Dialectics of Nature, doctoral supervisor of Hehai Uniwersity. 1968: graduated from Dept. of Mathematics and Mechanics, Tsinghua University. 1979 to 1982: visiting scholar in Institute of Nuclear Research of Fontenay aux Roses, Nuclear Energy Committee of France which is member of European Atomic Energy Union, as the first batch of going abroad visitor in China after reform and opening-up, engaged in the research of nuclear fusion. 1983 to 1993: attended the UNESCO annual conferences as the delegate of Chinese government. 1985 to 1986: leader of UNESCO project “Multi- disciplinary Studies on Applications to Development”. the English research report published by UNESCO ,created the concept of Knowledge Economy. 1990 to 1992: deputy representative, Counsellor of Chinese Permanent Mission to UNESCO,responsible for World Cultural Heritage. 1992 to 1993: high-tech and environment consultant of science sector of UNESCO. 1993:vice director general of the international department of state council information office of the People’s Republic of China. 1995: director of research office of environmental and resources committee of National People's Congress. 1995: vice chairman of 4th Conference of International Association of Science Parks(IASP), Beijing. 1997: vice chairman of organizing committee in 6th International Conference of IASP, Perth, Australia. 1998: director-general of Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Water Resources of China, executive director of National Water Saving Office. 1998: member of international steering committee of Hanover 2000 World Expo. 1999: made the first speech as Chinese delegate on the second USA-China Environment and Development forum in American State council, Washington. 2000: Chinese representative in the senior official preparatory meeting and the follwoing 2nd World Water Forum and the Ministerial Conference in Hague, Netherland. 2001: constructed the Chinese technology committee of the Global Water Associations, served as the standing vice-chairmen. 2001: special assistant of the president of applicant committee of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. 2002: candidate of the Environmental Award of UNEP. 2003: Chinese representative of 3rd World Water Forum and the Ministerial Conference, Kyoto, Japan. 2004: senior advisor of Beijing Olympic Game organizing committee;dean of school of Economics & Management of Beihang university. 2004: representative of Chinese Ministry of water Resources, made the keynote speech in world conference of International water Association (IWA) in Marrakech, Morocco, as one of the last two candidates of Grand Award of IWA. 2005: granted as “the Honorary Member of the IASP” ,the seventh winner in the history of IASP. 2005: presided the Chinese case report of ministerial conference of 4th World Water Forum in Mexico. 1998-2004: when served as the director-general of Department of Water Resources, presided the plans of 21st Century Forepart Beijing Water Resources Sustainable Utilization Programming, Short- term Improvement Plan of the Hei River Basin, Programming of the Tarim River,;participated in the project of the re-dispatching of the Yellow River, which realized the Yellow River not run dry, and praised as “a green tune” by the former Premier Zhu Rongji. Propose the new concepts of ecological repair and ecological water, bosed on which guidethe construction of ecological water reservoirs of Lijiang River. 2009: elected as a foregin member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Since 1979, Dr. Wu Jisong has published more than one hundred articles on resources management, environment protect, high-tech industrialization, knowledge economy and recycle economy in both well-known international and domestic journals and newspapers like Nature and Resources, International Social Science Journal of UNESCO, People’s Daily,etc. He has published several books such as Knowledge Economy, Recycle Economy?New Cell of the Society in 21st Century—Science Parks and Modern Water Resources Management Methodology, My Research on Water Resources and the Management and Its Application, China Might not be in Shortage of Water,New Recycle Economics-Chinese Economics, etc. Knowledge Economy has more than 270,000 sales till now, won the“12th Chinese Books Award”. China Might not be in Short of Water attracted high attentions from the Chinese leaders, water conservancy workers and the public. Modern Water Resources Management Methodology is so far one of most influence books in water resources management. The English version of New Recycle Economics has been publish by Effeelle Editori of Italy.

MODULE - Knowledge Economy and Recycle Economy in China


The course will introduce the basic theory of the sustainable development’s new economy: knowledge economy and recycle economy. Through analysis of the current Chinese economic situation and development trend, the practice and the development status of the knowledge economy and recycle economy in China will become apparent. Meanwhile, the course will introduce the opportunities and challenges which the Chinese markets offer to domestic and foreign entrepreneurs in this new economy.

Short description

The grim reality in the world today is that the population is rapidly increasing, natural resources are becoming scarce, the environment is worsening and the ecosystem is degenerating. Meanwhile, the Chinese economy is simultaneously facing problems with population, resources, the environment and ecosystem while it is rapidly developing. Therefore, developing the knowledge economy and the recycle economy is appropriate in the present economic globalization trend. At present, cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have the strength to further develop their knowledge economy. On the other hand, many provinces and cities have been challenged to find a system of recycle economy. The new economic development will change and enlarge Chinese markets, and it will also offer a great deal of opportunities and challenges to Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs.
